smitten with... garden parties

sorry for the sudden boost in posts, but we had a mothers day party. one of the fantastic things about my mother is her cooking. as a chef, she has really high standards when it comes to food. with the new pizza oven we had installed, her standards have gone up, if possible. so here's her latest creations.

truffles for dessert! and my pizza - half cheese and tomato, with onions, half pesto, garlic and onions, without any of the parmesan cheese.

some pizzas, some of our ingredients and the orange/olive salad.

here are some of the ingredients and one of the pizzas - they were so tasty!

here's the pizza oven and some of mom's "soup shots" - tomato soup and asparagus soup in assorted crystal glasses from a second hand shop. they were delicious!

smitten with... the garden in sunshine

the quality doesn't look great on here, but here are some of my typical garden pictures from the past few sunny weekends! the last one is my three year old puppy pesto, whom I adore. she's 6.8 lbs and such a cutie.
i hope you can look past the graininess to the real pictures - I love taking pictures of flowers, especially this time of year, and I think some of them really turned out. I hope so, anyway.

smitten with... note-taking

Sorry it's been a while! I lent my camera to a friend who needs to update her portfolio, so right now I just have a writing post. I've been keeping a journal as of late, just of notes throughout the day, and a separate one for things I'm thankful for. I find it really soothing during the day, if that makes sense, and it's just really easy for me to keep track of my thoughts that way.
so yeah, if you don't want to read that annoying like dear-diary emotional drama kind of thing, you should just skip this.

10:13 am may 4th '10: secrets -- can't decide if it's worth it. but i like him, he likes me: shouldn't it be?
7:13 pm may 8th '10: someone new? who knows. i can't decide what the line is, between frienship and something else; it's a thin line, though, i know that. do i really have to choose? is it possible to find a balance - be the ultimate best friend (who kicks ass at super smash bros and air hockey, who tolerates the talk about hot girls and boy things, who laughs at that's what she said jokes) and ultimate girlfriend (who wears skirts and lip gloss, never talks too much and is a damn good kisser)? seems like a mix of those would be perfect, but i can't seem to get it right. maybe i'll just stick with being sophie, perfection's overrated.

10:01 pm may 8th '10: decisions suck.
10:32 pm may 8th '10: to be honest, wouldn't life just be easier if things always worked out? maybe i was just raised on disney movies, which taught me that every girl deserves a happy ending. they really set me up to be let down on that one. thanks a lot, walt.

a lot from tonight -- i've had a lot on my mind. i'll have up some pictures up tonight, probably -- i went shopping for my birthday and got lots of new stuff, yay.
hope everythings been great!

smitten with... late nights

for starters, i will be having a new outfit post soon. i went shopping for my birthday, really shopping, not just in my closet, and got a lot of great stuff. three new pairs of shoes, which i love, some of those new jean leggings (jeggings?) and earrings. i also have to post up the outfit i wore shopping, which is one of my favorites.

but second of all, i've been staying up late recently. not ridiculously so, but around 2 or 3, which is late for me. i've been watching all that trashy late night tv, which only encourages the insomnia, but i love it. and buffy the vampire slayer reruns, which are addicting. but the clothes were just... ew. early 2000s? not a great fashion decade. i much prefer the 50s. and 20s. and 40s, and 60s, and 80s. they're inspiring. 90s? not so much.

i couldn't really think of anything to write about, but i want to make sure i keep up with the blogging. i don't want to start out with a bang, then get busy and start dropping out. like all my other blogs. thus, this post. which i consider a filler post, but it'll pass time. so i'll leave you with some of my inspirations of the moment...

i love nylon - it's my dream to intern there one day. but living in seattle (which you'd think would be more updated) i can only find it in the downtown bartells. but the music is great, the fashion is really cool and chic (not to use such an overused fashion word) and i feel like i'm really interested. that doesn't exactly make sense but with a lot of magazines my friends read (seventeen, teenvogue, glamour, etc.) you don't end up with much for your money -- the articles aren't too interesting and it's mostly ads.

like i've mentioned, i love the 20s. it's inspiring, all that culture. and the women were so comfortable with their sexuality. the amazing jazz, dancing, everything about it. poetry, too, and a greater african american influence. people were hopeful, with all the new, modern inventions. they were shedding the tradition of the late 1800s and early 1900s. women finally had the right to vote. the chrysler building. it was all pretty inspiring, don't you say?

queen rania of jordan. she's passionate, committed to education for all, especially women, and beautiful. i recently wrote a report about her, and i find her amazing. she started out with so little and has done so much for the world. she's truly an inspiring person.

alright, i'll find something more interesting to write about tomorrow.
thanks for reading!

smitten with... closet shopping

so, it's my birthday. whoop-dee-do. yeah, 4/20. hitler's birthday, national let's get high day, columbine. what a great day. in honor of it, i went closet shopping. i raided the back corners of my teeny tiny closet and found some new fun stuff. also, it was sunny today! so i got to pull out my shorts and flip flops (hooray) and one of my tshirts (it was mislabeled and i purchased and XL instead of an XS. i would have returned it but i like the new effect.) and have fun.

oh, and i've got a lunch with my mom today, so i've got to figure out what to wear. and then post pictures. hopefully it'll be sunny and i can do an outdoor photoshoot. (too bad i'm missing a photographer. hm.)

also, you know what spring means? cutoff short time. i haven't worn most of my jeans in months - i'm in a skirt phase right now - so i'll be cutting most of them up. and maybe doing an acid wash on one or two, i might put up a tutorial later in the season.

but here are my finds from closet shopping:

for starters, i found this new necklace, which i really like, and these bangles, on my bedside table. i've been more into gold lately, which is weird for me - i tend to think silver's classier. it's easier for gold to look tacky. but when used right, i really like gold.

these platform sandals, which i really like, too. the colors nice, and i love the braiding on the side. my only issue is walking in them, but i'll master that eventually. and the heels are a little clunky for me, but i'm trying to get used to thicker heels.

on a recent second hand shopping and found these at crossroads, on broadway (to clarify, this is seattle we're talking about.) they were seven dollars, and i'm in love with them. i love the embroidery detail, and they have detachable buckle-tie-things, which are really cute.
i also found these at crossroads too, for fifteen dollars. i like them because at least from the top, you can't really tell they're heels. most people think they're moccasins, or something of the like. and for a short (ie; 5'0".) girl like me, cute, hidden heels are basically my savior. also, i like the sixties vibe.

outfit for the day - shorts, one of my comfy tees, those gray heels and the chain necklace. sorry for the awful camera quality (working on it!) and lighting. and sorry the pictures are so little.

oh, and i found this eraser. it's a little bowl of noodles, with some fried shrimp and beans. my birthday present to myself.

well, happy 420.
